Description

The St. Catharines Constitutionalist, Thursday July 7, 1870, under the headline "The Base Ball Match," reports that the Frontier Club of St. Catharines was defeated by Dundas 63 to 9 on Dominion Day (July 1). By 1876, two Dundas clubs, the Young Canadian and Independent, existed. See Bryce's Canadian Base Ball Guide for 1876, p. 31. Nancy Bouchier, "For the Love of the Game: Amateur Sport in Small Town Ontario, 1838-1895," p. 107, has the Dundas "Mechanics" losing in 1866 to the Woodstock Young Canadians. This may be the same club as the 1870 team.

Win/Loss Records As Far As We Now Know

Warning: Users should not rely on a team's won-loss record as a reflection of its "standing" among all base ball clubs. Team schedules were not balanced, and a good record against mostly weak opponents does not signify a leading club.
