Description | Bakersfield is a town in Franklin County, of the "Islands & Farms" region. The town was known for some years even in state records as "Bakersfield alias Knoultons Gore" because it had originally been granted to Luke Knowlton (Knoulton) of Newfane and sold in the late 1790s to Joseph Baker of Westboro, Massachusetts, who acquired title to the entire 10,000 acre town for £500.
