This game is described as being "the conquering match of Mr. Seymour's and Mr Rundell's boys."  Seymour and Rundell ran private schools in Bloomfield.  The lineups are almost exactly the same as the earlier 8/8/1858 game between the Liberty and Waverly Clubs which are described as two "youthful clubs."  It seems to make sense to treat the two games as being played by the same teams.  As school teams, this is the earliest known inter-scholastic baseball game.
