Description	The Los Angeles Herald, Sept. 7, 1892 reports that the Whittier Cadets played baseball during their encampment at Camp Banning, Catalina Island. A resort was first established on Catalina Island in 1891. It was basically uninhabited prior to this. Many years later the Chicago Cubs did spring training on the island. Camp Banning Cove is 15 miles from Avalon.
