It notes that Anchorage has a baseball grounds, on which last July 4th the town boys played the town girls. Freedman, "Diamonds in the Rough" p. 14 says that Anchorage was a tent city in 1915. Yet employers asked new residents whether they could play baseball. An Anchorage-Seward baseball rivalry started in 1916. Photos of baseball in Anchorage in 1915 can be seen at https://www.anchoragemuseum.org/exhibits/home-field-advantage-baseball-in-the-far-north/baseball-in-the-far-north/ Anchorage AK is about 300 miles S of Fairbanks. |
