Description | During the Spalding 1888-89 world baseball tour, they played a game at Auckland, NZ on Dec. 10, 1888, with the Chicago team beating the All-Americans 22-13. See Zeiler, Ambassadors in Pinstripes p. 73, 86. The game was played at the Tramway Company's grounds at Epsom, an Auckland suburb. Baseball may have been played in Auckland prior to this. The Auckland Star, Feb. 28, 1881 (and other dates in 1881), has an ad for the W. W. Robinson shop, 9 Queen St., where they advertise in stock "Base Ball Sets, Men's and Youths Cricket Materials." |
