Description | Ducey, "The Rajah..." pp. 4-5, 22, says baseball came to Calgary in 1884. As proof he cites the June 9, 1884 Calgary Herald, which reported on a game between the city police force and citizens, won by the former 31-28. That baseball was played there in 1884 is confirmed in the Calgary Weekly Herald, Sept. 3, 1884, which under "Personals" notes that: "A. Bisch [who left Calgary for Toronto] "will be particularly missed by the base ball club." Calgary was founded in 1884. The Canadian Pacific RR didn't reach the site of Calgary until 1883. Calgary had 3,876 residents in 1891. |

Comment | Justin McKinney sends a clipping from the Calgary Weekly Herald, March 19, 1884, in which the editor writes that he came to Calgary last August, and the following Sunday witnessed a "baseball match" and a horse race, open saloons, but no church services. This suggest baseball played there in 1883. Edit with form to add a comment |
