Description | The Wichita Eagle, April 12, 1872, picks up on a Wichita Vidette article saying a base ball club has just been formed with L. A. Brown, president. Same March 13, 1873 has the Arkansas Valley Boys (presumably the same club), Milburn Alexander, captain, challenging a "Picked nine" of that city to a ball game. Same March 20, 1873 has the Boys winning that game 32-17 last Saturday. Same, Feb. 13, 1873: "Some of the young ladies of our city have organized a base ball club, and will soon be ready, we understand, to challenge the Arkansas Valley for the belt." (the belt presumably being the city championship). |
