| Text | The National Tribune, Aug. 23, 1906 prints an article about how, while in Alexandria waiting to be mustered out of service, soldiers of the 186th New York played a team from the 51st Pennsylvania. According to the article, the 186th won so decisively that the 51st would never play them again. Records show that the 51st PA arrived in Alexandria May 25, 1865, and that the mustering out took place from July 16-27. The 186th was mustered out June 2, 1865. The game must have taken place in late May or early June. |
