Text | The Portland Daily Press, April 25, 1864 prints a letter from a soldier in the 17th Maine Infantry, dated April 18, which says that a few weeks ago at James City, VA "the boys got about all manner of games [including] the old school-boy game of base-ball." Craft, "141st Pennsylvania" p. 168 says that "ball-playing" in camp at James City was popular in March 1864. |
