Comment | The Montgomery Advertiser, Oct. 12, 1865, had urged the young men of Montgomery to follow what other southern cities were doing and form a base ball club. The Pelham club was named after a Confederate army hero, Major John Pelham. Its President and VP were Colonel Robert C. Ferris and General J. T. Holtzclaw. The first practice was May 11th, behind Gen. Holtzclaw's house.

Win/Loss Records As Far As We Now Know
Warning: Users should not rely on a team's won-loss record as a reflection of its "standing" among all base ball clubs. Team schedules were not balanced, and a good record against mostly weak opponents does not signify a leading club.
