Text | [A] "Young Hawthorne was hit on the leg while playing "bat and ball" on November 10, 1813 [1], and he became lame and bedridden for a year, though several physicians could find nothing wrong with him." [2] [B] "Less than six weeks after Uncle Richard left Salem for good, Nathaniel injured his foot at school while playing, Ebe [his sister] said, with a bat and ball."
