Description | The New York Clipper, April 18, 1868 reports that on the 4th inst., a game was played at Fort Wallace between soldiers of the 7th Cavalry and 5th Infantry, organized into 2 new teams, the Beecher and the Keogh. The Beecher won 73-45. The Keogh is undoubtedly named after Miles Keogh, an officer in the 7th who died at the Little Bighorn. Presumably the Beechers were the soldiers of the 5th. Fort Wallace existed 1865-82. |
