Text | "William Vroman recalls attending a Fourth of July celebration in 1845:
'The programme was for fun generally, and we had it. Rifle shooting for sheep, home-made Scotch whisky and beer, playing base ball, dancing the 'Highland fling' on the green, with Billy Ray and his bagpipes for music.'

Comment | I'm not sure that the combination of homemade whiskey and Billy Ray playing the bagpipes would be such a good idea, particularly not with rifles lying about. -- Richard Hershberger
Especially if the sheep had the rifles -- Protoball Functionary
