The Donaldsonville Chief, Sept. 20, 1873: "Base Ball Notes... The colored boys are catching the base ball fever. They are organizing a club in Donaldsonville, which we hear they intend to call the 'Burnside Club no. 2'. Two clubs have been organized on the left bank of the river, one named Chapman, the other Brent."

The white club in Donaldsonville was named the Burnside at this time.
