Description | The Charleston News & Courier, July 11, 1874, said Camden had two baseball clubs, the Camden and the Kershaw (the latter named after leading citizen General Joe Kershaw). Orangeburg News, Aug. 8, 1874, says the Aurora Base Ball Club of Orangeburg went to Camden and played a game with the Kershaw Club, winning 46-24. Camden SC (1870 pop. about 1,000) is about 30 miles NE of Columbia SC. Orangeburg SC (1870 pop. about 250) is aboiut 60 miles S of Camden. |
