Text | The catalog of the Southern Historical Society Collection, UNC, includes the letters of William H. Broughton, 16th ME. According to the catalog, "some letters mention games and sports, including baseball, ice skating, chess, and checkers." The 16th served in Virginia for the entire war. the catalog is silent as to when and where the baseball letters were written, it is probable that they were written in the winter of 1862-63, in camp near Falmouth. |
