Biography
One of the earliest players on the Vigilants.
in 1861 Stephen joined the Civil War and enlisted in the 14th NYSM.
On June 23, 1861 at Camp Wool he played and kept score of a game
played between Company D and Company E. there were many ball
players in the 14th. It was written there were over 400 spectators
were present For the game. Tickers side against Browns side. Browns
side getting waxed 17 to 10.
Stephen H. Thatford was killed in action from wound received at the
battle of 2nd Bull Run. He was buried at his families plot in Greenwood
Cemetery in Brooklyn, New York
