Text	[Chicago vs. Providence 8/14/1878] ...the fearful hit McLean [umpire] got in the mouth. He was knocked out of time, and had to be lifted from the ground and carried to a settee. As it was, he sustained a frightful gash of the upper lip, and had to seek surgical aid after the game. [He apparently completed the game.]
