Text	The favorite system of going to a base in the association is the head long slide, though some men slide feet first and are very successful. Faatz is one of them. He throws his feet into the base and his body outside the line. The advantages of the headfirst slide are, ability to side outside and back of the line so as to avoid the sweeping touch of the baseman and still get the hands on the base; ability to reach the base after missing it on the slide; ability to stop at a given point, the hands acting as an anchor or brake; ability to deceive the umpire, that official being to wobble on a hand than on a foot contact with the base.
