Text | [Chicago vs. Providence 6/4/1880] [Farrell at first base] Then Ward came to the rescue with a high ball to right centre, which both Gore and Kelly tried to get, and between them—no one calling for the catch—the ball fell safely. On the throw-in, Farrell ran to third, and as he passed Burns [shortstop] the latter put out his foot and tripped him, and act causing loud hisses from the crowd. On Peters' fly-ball Farrell tried to get home, but the ball was finely thrown in by Gore to Flint, and the expected run was lost. |
