Text | After the parade, about 150 invited guests, including Athletic managers and players, the Metropolitan, Baltimore and Philadelphia clubs, the committee of reception and members of the press sat down to a fine banquet. Col. Fitzgerald presided and made an excellent speech. A beautiful banner was presented to the club, by President of Select Council W. B. Smith. Mr. Heineman next presented each player with a handsome gold medal, and Councilman Hoffman, on behalf of Mr. Mason, presented Captain Stovey with a gold watch and chain. Thus ended the ceremonies of the evening an d concluded one of the most remarkable demonstrations in the history of Philadelphia, and one unprecedented in the annals of the game. |
