Text | With a man on third the infield was playing up close. One of the Cleveland coachers ran in from third on a hit to short. Thinking it was the Cleveland player going home the ball was sent to the plate. As the batter got safely to first there was no one out. As there was no penalty for an act of this kind Umpire Knight made the Cleveland coachers stay back at the bench during the rest of the game. When Secretary Brunell heard of it he sent word to all umpires that hereafter when anything like this occurred to give the runner out. |
