Text | [a reporters nine vs. St. George CC 8/10/1870] ...strong in their knowledge of the points of the game, they felt sanguine of being able to reduce it to practice; but they found it much easier to criticise the game than to play it. The “Father of the game” worked like a beaver in the first inning, and gave his “little ones” the very best advice; but this, like most parental instruction, when not backed up by the force of example, had not a very striking effect.
