Text | [Athletics vs. Atlantics 10/22/1866] At the end of the fifth inning [with the Athletics ahead 14-10] the gamblers thought it advisable to inform their friends in New York of the state of affairs, and, of course, advise them to hedge. A Herald reporter, however, had his messenger boys upon the ground, by whom he despatched the news to a convenient telegraph station, and anticipated these fellows fully half an hour. |
