Text | [Mutual vs. Athletic 9/14/1869] Had the umpire been more strict in his rulings, and kept the pitchers well down to their work, the result would have been more favorable for the Mutuals, for, while Wolters, according to the Athletics themselves, pitched with great regularity, McMullen would not send a ball anywhere near the desired spot, unless compelled to by the umpire. |
