Text | The policy of buying players by big bonuses, such as was done by the St. Louis Club in the case of Lewis, is squelched by a clause providing that when a club releases a player, that player shall not be eligible for negotiation or contracting with any other club until ten days after the Secretary of the Association shall have mailed notices of his release to the secretaries of all the other parties thereto. This makes any contract invalid which may be made with such released player, prior to ten days after the notice of release is promulgated, and gives every club a chance to get at the released player at the same time. |
