Text | [Athletic vs. Mutual 5/2/1876] Eggler... struck at the first good ball with a force which sent it flying aparently over the outfielder's heads toward the Pagoda, and a home run with a victory seemed certain. Just at this opportune time Holdsworth backed down on the run, and, jumping up as the ball was passing over him, clutched it, held it up a moment to show that he had caught it, and then ran with the trophy towards the Pagoda amidst the loud applause of the thousands present. |
