Text | [Baltimore vs. St. Louis 7/5/1885] Not until the ninth inning did they [the Baltimores] succeed in scoring. After the Browns had been given their half of the inning the Baltimores demanded a new ball, as the one with which they had been playing ripped. The Browns objected, but the new ball was allowed, and the result was the visitors batted Caruther’s delivery to all sections of the field, earning four runs before they were retired.
