Text | [from an interview of McKnight] I have just got back from New York where I had a conference with Manager Ferguson of the Troy Club. Mr. Ferguson told me that Holbert had signed with their Club before he had opened negotiations with the Allegheny Club. Ferguson also stated that Holbert had lately fallen into the habit of playing tricks of that kind where he had an impression that he could scoop in a little money. I came to the conclusion that it would cost too much money, time and trouble to go on to Troy and have Holbert jugged, and received an assurance from Mr. Ferguson that he would see that the $50 advanced by us to Holbert should be returned at the opening of the season. I have concluded not to do any thing further in the matter, until the next meeting of the Association, when I will move to have him expelled. |
