Text | William W. Kelly, whilom manager of the Chicago Baseball Club, will be tendered a benefit at the Union Grounds this afternoon by the baseball fraternity of this city. Two picked nines have been selected to play, which will embrace the best available material in the city, and a close and interesting game is anticipated. The bringing to this coast of the Eastern professionals, while it has given a new impetus to baseball in this community, has, at the same time, proved a most disastrous speculation for Mr. Kelly. The members of the different clubs are putting forth every effort to make the benefit a success. |
