Text | [from answers to correspondents] ...the first ball delivered is bowled in and the striker (standing within the lines of his position) hits it as it bounds toward him, and, before short-stop can field it, makes his first base. The umpire rules that the striker is entitled to his base, and, upon the [fielding] club refusing to continue the game, decided int in favor of [the batting club] 9 to 0. Is the ruling correct? … Yes. |
