Text | [Cincinnati vs. Atlantic 6/14/1870] Start...hitting a long ball to right field, which fell upon the side of the bank in such as way as to break its force. McVey went for the ball, and in stooping to get it where it had fallen among the crowd, one fellow jumped on his back. McVey quickly threw him off, and sent the ball into Wright, but not before Start had reached his third. The fellow who made the effort to stop McVey was at once arrested, and it saved him from the crowd, who were indignant at such contemptible conduct. |
