Text | [from Chadwick's column=] Last August, before Mr. Spalding returned home from his summer visit to the Atlantic coast, he sent for me at his Broadway office to have “a private talk with him on a very important subject.” It was in strict confidence that he told me of the project he then had in view, and he wanted to learn my opinion as to its practical value before he took any steps to carry it out. What he told me I kept to myself, as required; but now that he has published the matter himself, I am free to comment on it, and the project in question was his proposed return home from Australia via the European continent and Great Britain. |
