Text | [Boston vs. Philadelphia 5/26/1875] An now what were his [Harry Wright] tactics: First, his men were ordered to tire out Fisher [pitcher] by remaining at the bat as long as it was possible. Second, by changing pitchers in the eighth inning and giving the opposing club balls they could not reach, giving them if necessary their bases on called balls, rather than run the risk of the very heavy batting which they had been doing. These are the points, the feats in generalship, if you please, that won for the Boston club their victory. |
