Text | The Base Ball world receives with surprise the announcement that Mr. Pratt has gone back to the Atlantics. We have known for some time that he was playing reluctantly with the Athletics. The fact is, nobody but the stupid officers of that splendid organization are to blame for this result. If they had but kept their promises to this superb and honorable player, he would have remained with them. They have lost one of their strongest and best men, whose place they cannot fill. Philadelphia City Item September 1, 1866 Now that Pratt has retired from the Athletics, we may be permitted to state that he was one of the four in the nine who protested against “hired men,” and declared that he would not play in such company. Let the gentlemen of the Athletic club think of this. |
