Text | [Cincinnati vs. Star of Brooklyn 6/18/1870] [George Wright at first base] While there he induced Cummings to overthrow to the base and of course made his second; and again distracting the pitcher's attention, he induced him to deliver the ball wide, and on the passed ball George came home. In this Cummings received a lesson which he should profit by, and that is, never to throw to bases except by signal from the catcher, the being the only effectual method of catching a player napping on a base. |
