Text	[reporting the PL special meeting of 8/27] The question of a deal between the Players' League and the American Association was not definitely settled. … Messrs. Johnson, Brunell and Ward, who were appointed a special committee on the welfare of the League at its last meeting in Philadelphia, made their report. Exactly what it was could not be learned, but it caused an hour's debate, and at the end of that time the Player's League was no nearer a deal with the American Association than it was last year. There are two sides to the question, which were presented to the meeting. An agreement would have its disadvantages as well as its advantages. While it would undoubtedly be a big feather in the cap of the new League to break up the so-called National Agreement, such a deal would open the door for the National League to jump in and sign as many of the Association's players as it chooses, and it needs a great many more of them than the Players' League.
