Text | [Indianapolis vs. Memphis 3/18/1877] Nolan began the pitching, but after four innings' play, without a run in, his delivery was objected to, and McSorley took his place. … The umpire in this game must have known whether Nolan's delivery was legal or not in the first inning. It is very easy to tell. The hand in delivering the ball must be below the line of the waist or belt; if it is not, then the delivery is illegal. |
