Text | In the game at Philadelphia June 2, in the sixth inning, in which the Phillies scored six runs, while Anson was kicking against the umpire's decision that Delehanty [sic] was safe at the plate Irwin, who was at bat, fixed up a little scheme that worked to a charm. Buffinton and Farrar were on first and second bases respectively and Fogarty was coaching at first base. Irwin ran down and posted Fogarty and Buffinton, and Fogarty ran over and whispered to Farrar. Irwin bunted the first ball pitched and beat it to first base. Farrar and Buffinton knew what was coming and were on the move as soon as the ball was delivered. |
