Text | [from answers to correspondents] In a base ball match, played the other day, the striker tipped an easy foul, which the catcher could have got had it not been for an outsider (a member of the other club), who put up his hand and stopped the ball. The umpire declared the man out; the players would not give it out. We leave it to you–was the man out or not? ... The umpire was wrong; the player was not out. |
