Text | Mr. Von der Ahe, when last heard from, was in Cincinnati where he closed a contract with Harry Weldon, of the Cincinnati Enquirer. Harry is to be Chris' secretary at a liberal salary. Under any man but Chris this position would be a pleasant one, but under the genial German, as The Sporting Life habitually calls him, it is scarcely less than menial, as Chris is not only whimsical and eccentric, but also extremely arrogant and requires abject submission and adulation at the hands of his subordinates whom he looks upon as mere machines to minister to his caprices. |
