Text | [reporting the NL special meeting of 1/21/1885] Mr. Lucas renewed his application for admission to the league, agreeing to abide by the national agreement and the league constitution and playing rules. He stated further that he should not give up his club and grounds at St. Louis, but, if not admitted to the league, would continue the fight of last season in the Union or some other association. He was very frank in his statements, and made a better impression on the league delegates than McKnight and O'Neill, whose arbitrary remarks widened the impending breach between the two associations. |
