Text | It is pretty well known that the stockholders of the Club lost money last year, and it is also clear that some of the players were not paid what they were entitled to under their contracts. It is therefore probable that the real reason for not going on was, beside the difficulty of getting players, the unwillingness of the Directors and stockholders to enter into contracts with new men while old contracts were left unsettled. Moreover, the prospect of making the game pay for itself was very doubtful,--in fact, it was nearly impossible that the receipts could have met the expenses. |
