Text | The charges of dissipation against certain of the Athletic players, published in last week's Sporting Life, were the subject of general local comment during the week. … A majority of the local base ball reporters were also acquainted with the facts published in The Sporting Life, but they remained silent because they were apparently afraid that it might injure the club. Our only motive in publishing the facts was to brace the team up at this critical stage of the championship race and to give the guilty players notice that they could not longer nullify the efforts of their hard-working fellow-players or jeopardize the team's pennant chances without prompt exposure. |
