Text | [Cleveland vs. Chicago 7/29/1881] ...Anson was at the bat, with Gore on third and Kelly on second, but a fly to left-field was all the big Captain could do. Kelly was guilty of an act of gross folly in this inning in trying to steal across the diamond without touching third base, and was properly declared out by the umpire. The play at such a time was unutterably stupid, and Kelly needs admonishing that that sort of base-running is too much of the cheap-and-nasty description to give satisfaction. |
