Text | The signing of Keefe was a necessity on the part of the New York Club. They held out as long as they could, almost too long, before they gave in. Had the other pitchers of the club remained in condition it is quite likely that Keefe would not have been signed yet. The giving out of the young pitchers settled the question, and President Day was not long in making up his mind in saying so. He found that one Keefe was better than two colts who were not in condition one-half the time. The knowing ones knew from the start that it was only a question of time before the New York Club would sign Keefe. |
