Text | [Eureka vs. Atlantic 10/25/1866] The third of the series of contests between these clubs for the championship took place on the Union grounds...in the presence of about fifteen hundred people, the extra charge for admission, the cold weather, and the counter attraction of the grand military parade, all having the effect of diminishing the attendance. The extra charge resulted from the fact that two-thirds of the receipts went to the two clubs, it being the second match this season in which the gate money has been a primary object the contesting nines played for. |
