| Text | A. T. Soule, proprietor of the Rochester Base-Ball Club, is unable to trace the whereabouts of Horace B. Phillips, manager of his nine. The latter left Rochester Saturday with $400 of Soule's money, with which to pay the players, then at Springfield, Mass. Phillips telegraphed from Buffalo Saturday night that he had had trouble with his wife, but would reach Springfield Tuesday morning. He did not go, and has not bee heard from. Soule believes Phillips has either been robbed or has decamped with the money. In the latter event, Soule will take no speical measures to follow, or prosecute him, for he says if Phillips is dishonest he considers $400 a small amount to lose in getting rid of him. The Club, which has played the last four games with only seven errors, will be retained as if nothing had happened, and the men's salaries will be paid. Acting Manager W. H. Hawes takes the place vacated by Phillips. Cincinnati Enquirer July 29, 1880 A. T.
