Text | Walter Hewitt announced yesterday that he has had enough of the base ball business, and the material at Capital Park will be sold at auction next week. It is rumored that he has disposed of his League franchise to the Brooklyn Club, but it is hardly probable that such a deal has been consummated. The League magnates are loth to part company with Mr. Hewitt, not only on account of his general popularity and financial standing, but because it is desirable to have a club located at League headquarters. During the past year the Senatorial team has been a constant drain upon the Hewitt estate, and as executor of his father’s will he does not feel justified in drawing any further upon the family treasury for funds to invest in base ball. He realizes that he can not attend to his real estate business in conjunction with a base ball club, and as the latter yields him no profit it will have to go. |
